The owners of this home are expert builders of large-scale construction who approached us with an unexpected invitation, to participate in a paid competition with other architecture firms to win the opportunity to design their personal study in performance and artistry. With emphasis placed on the desire to be surrounded by high quality material and fine craft, we transformed a suburban collection of properties in to a pastoral estate stylistically rooted in bucolic English Cotswold architecture celebrating fine, American craft in every aspect of design and construction. An unbundled concept separates different functioning spaces allowing a greater visual connection with the landscape by creating meaningful outdoor gathering areas between buildings and encouraging natural light throughout. The result is a timeless collection of modestly scaled buildings thoughtfully choreographed to create a compound that is inviting yet protective while embracing and comforting family and friends.
